Dear Liar

The Irish Repertory Theatre of Tallahassee is delighted to do another production at the Goodwood Museum and Gardens of Dear Liar by Jerome Kilty. Here is George Bernard Shaw in all his contradictions; he adores the actress Mrs. Campbell and persuades her to play the Liza Doolittle in Pygmalion (the basis for My Fair Lady). He frets with her when she leaves for an American Tour and yet he refuses permission to publish the letters that would save her from bankruptcy. Mrs. Campbell is his match; she published them anyway.

The production will take advantage of the Jubilee Cottage at Goodwood to give a sense of another time period. In the correct atmosphere, two worthy people will perform in a space reminiscent of the turn of the 20th Century. It was a time of writing letters to each other versus the time of cell phones and computers. Communication by letter required a certain expertise, which both people were well-versed in, one better than the other.

Dear Liar will premiere on Thursday evening on August 15 at 7:30 pm and run for additional performances on Friday, August 16 at 7:30 pm, and a Sunday matinee, August 18 at 2 pm. The following week, there will be shows on Thursday, August 22 and Friday, August 23 at 7:30 pm, and a Sunday matinee at 2 pm on August 25. There will be a WINE AND CHEESE RECEPTION a half-hour before each show, included in your ticket. Each performance will be exclusive and intimate, as there will be only FIFTY audience members per show.

(Online Box Office closes 2 hours before show time. Unless otherwise noted here, tickets will be available at the door.)
